I was writing my New Year's resolutions in my journal last night and thought why not share them? I make a list every year and actually do work on them throughout the year. I find that writing them in my journal helps me turn back to them to see my progress and remind me of areas I still need to work on. These are my resolutions for 2012:
1. Love more. This includes everyone. My husband, family, friends, church, the random stranger at the store. I get so caught up in myself that I fail to love others and put them before me. I especially want to love Jesus more this year by not letting other things crowd my relationship with him out.
2. Read more. Most notably the Bible. Some days I do well, other days not so much. It is crucially important as a Christian to study it daily. My goal is to do it first thing, even if that means waking up early. Other than that, I also want to keep working on a classic book list that has been put on the back burner since Ashyr was born.
3. Double Capernaum Vintage. I have plenty of inventory to make my etsy shop twice its size, but I still have yet to do so. My hope is to list at least one or two items each week. That isn't much, but I know it's possible for me to at least do that, and it will keep me from getting burnt out by not making such a lofty goal.
4. Exercise regularly. Of course this is probably on everyone's list. I never thought it would be on mine because of my educational background and passion for the field. Plus it was always just a part of my everyday life no question about it. But wow, how a baby changes everything! It is especially difficult during the winter months when I can't just put Ashyr in a stroller and go for a walk. And I have yet to find an at home DVD workout that suits my fancy (suggestions?). I really want to get something established now that I'm pregnant. I need to be exercising while I'm pregnant, and certainly after the baby is here in June to get back into shape.
5. Be a better blogger. Yes, I want to improve my blogging skills. Mostly what I mean here is to be a more active member of the community. One thing I want to do is start commenting more faithfully on others blogs. I know how much I appreciate comments on mine, but I don't always take the time to return the favor. I have several followers who consistently leave sweet comments (thank you!) but I don't leave them on their blogs which are amazing. There is also a fear of rejection. You know, like if you offer something on your blog like a giveaway or some opportunity. Sometimes I chicken out simply because I think no one will be interested. Gotta quit that and just go for it.
There you have it. Do you make resolutions? If so, I'd be curious to know what some of them are!
We are celebrating with a group of friends tonight as we bring in the new year. I'm worried I won't make it to midnight. Anyway, Happy New Year and I hope 2012 is your best year yet!

Christmas Recap
I'm back! Sorry, I wasn't expecting my blogging hiatus to be so long. But we had an amazing Christmas full of quality family time, delicious food, games, Christmas movies, and celebrating our Savior's birth. I'm so thankful for the six whole days we were able to spend with my parents, my siblings, and all my nieces and nephews. Couldn't have asked for a better holiday. Here are a few pictures from the trip. I wish I had gotten more, but I was having so much fun that I forgot! Anyway, these give you a glimpse of my trip.
I hope you had an amazing Christmas. I'm still recovering from all the festivities and traveling, but I hope to be back in the groove soon. So stay tuned!
We went to Silver Dollar City for the Christmas tree light ceremony which was beautiful, but freezing!
Me with my sweet niece Natalie Rose.
My sister-in-law Jen, me, and Ashyr. Sorry it's fuzzy.
Ashyr in his new outfit from Aunt Jen and Uncle Aaron, so cute!
Ashyr got SPOILED on his first Christmas.

Saturday Morning Coffee 12.24
I am stoked that we are going to be at my parent's with all my siblings for five. whole.days. However, that means I don't know when posting will resume next week. Forgive me if it's kind of quiet around here for a few days.
Have a wonderful Christmas, friends. Enjoy your time with your loved ones and all your family traditions. But be sure to celebrate our Savior's birth first and foremost!

Recipe: Chocolate Dipped Candy Canes
Yesterday I told you I didn't make any goodies for people except for a few friends. Well this isn't completely true. I didn't have the heart to forget about my sweet nieces and nephews. Of course I had to make something to spoil them with. Really, what kind of auntie would I be if I didn't?
Chocolate Dipped Candy Canes
Ingredients:
1 box of candy canes
1/2 bag of chocolate morsels
1/2 bag of white chocolate morsels
Sprinkles for decoration
Directions:
1. Dip the crook of the cane in melted chocolate. This was kinda messy.
2. Coat with sprinkles.
3. Put in fridge until the chocolate is hard. Enjoy that perfect chocolate and peppermint combo!

DIY: Christmas Cookie Tins
I have always loved putting together goody packages for my family and friends at Christmas time. You know, the fudge, chocolate pretzels, chex mix, etc. But this year, I either a.) haven't had the time or b.) haven't felt well enough to tackle the tradition due being pregnant. I figured everyone gets plenty of treats anyway, so I haven't felt too guilty for slacking. Instead, I chose only three of our closest friends to share something with. I made a big batch of cookies to go in these super easy DIY cookie tins...made out of Pringle's cans! I may be changing my tradition--this was so much easier and efficient.
Supplies:
Directions:
1. Cut out the paper to fit the can.
2. Glue 'er down.
3. Admire your work.
4. Fill with cOoKiEs! I wanted to stack them all the way up in this picture, but they kept falling. :(
5. Maybe top with bows?
Perfection!
No doubt your friends will all be saying "Once you pop, you can't stop!"
Haha, sorry.
Supplies:
Empty Pringle's cans for as many people you are going to spoil. (My husband will be taking the chips with him for lunch for the next month, but he won't mind.)
Glue (or transparent tape would work).
Pretty wrapping paper.

Saturday Morning Coffee 12.17
My baby boy turned 9 months old this week. Here are few recent pictures that make this mama smile. Don't you just want to pinch his cheeks? (Except you would get sticky sweet potatoes all over your hands). But still so downright cute and expressive.

Christmas List
I thought it would be fun to put together a little wishlist for myself. These really are not items I'm expecting for Christmas from anyone because honestly, we don't do gifts in our families now that they are so large (read about our tradition here). Grant and I however, do each pick one thing that we have been wanting all year and we go shopping together to buy them. Last year we each got a new pair of nice leather boots and shoes. I love doing Christmas this way, because there is no stress involved and we have fun going shopping for whatever we want. This year I have had my eye on several things and I'm having trouble narrowing it down. Maybe I'll have to buy one of the maternity items AND something else. The way I look at it is this: I should get two things, since really the maternity item is for the baby... right? Don't you think so? Help me out here, so I can tell the hubs and he will understand that it's legit that I should get two gifts this year. ;)
Mine's on the fritz.
Same story here too.
Binocular necklace.
Well there you have it. All the things I would like to have and all of them justified why I need them!
Thanks for looking and dealing with my sarcasm. Honestly, I have everything I need and more. I plan to just get one thing I've been wanting (unless Grant pushes for me getting two, I won't fight it) and being completely content and grateful for what God has blessed us with already!
Love the color and bow.
Looks comfy, especially with tights.
Cowl neck tunic in my favorite color.
New diaper bag? Actually, this one is more for me, but let's be real. Baby stuff will end up in it, so I'm lumping it into the maternity category. :)
I want one of these...a latte :)

Binocular necklace.
Gorgeous.
Personalized pendants...get our babies initials?
Ha. Yeah right. Maybe if it's for the next 10 Christmases. Or maybe I could count it as a business expense..ya know, for the blog. Then it would be more for you than for me. Yeah, better get it.

Recipe: Cranberry Christmas Punch
Last night we hosted a Christmas shindig for a group of friends. We had so much fun playing games, telling stories, singing Christmas songs, and munching on holiday treats all night long. I made this punch for the first time, but I'm confident it will be a new Christmas tradition. I was nervous to try a new recipe for a large crowd because I thought it might be too tart with the cranberry juice. But it was actually the perfect combination of sweet and tart. SO good--it was all gone by the end of the night!
Ingredients:
1 - 3 oz. package of cherry flavored gelatin
1 cup of boiling water
1 - 6 oz. can of frozen lemonade or pineapple-orange juice concentrate
3 cups of cold water
1 - 1 quart bottle of cranberry juice cocktail, chilled
1 - 1 pint of ginger ale, chilled
Directions:
Dissolve cherry flavored gelatin in boiling water. Stir in lemonade or pineapple-orange juice concentrate. Add the cold water and the cranberry juice cocktail. Place in a large punch bowl. Slowly pour in chilled ginger ale. Garnish with oranges and cranberries. Makes about 25 servings.
