DIY: Felt and Twine Valentine Hanging Hearts

This weekend I added a splash of Valentine's day charm to our home using some felt and twine. Such a simple project, but I absolutely love how these adorable hearts turned out. It was also dirt cheap to make--I literally spent $1 on this project and that was for the twine. Everything else was from previous projects, and the tree limb...well I walked outside and picked that up!

Here is a tutorial for ya!

Supplies:

Assorted colors of felt
Twine (hemp cord or silk thread would do the trick too)
Large needle
Poly-Fil or some other type of stuffing
Tree limb

Directions:

1. Because felt is hard to trace onto, first cut out a heart by folding over a section of the felt so that it comes out symmetrical.

2. Then take the first heart and lay it over the felt to cut out its matching pair.

3. Get out your big honkin' needle (it needs to be huge for twine) and start sewing around the edges with a simple stitch.  You have to be kind of forceful with it because felt and twine are both thick. I found  that the bottom point was the best starting and ending place.

4. When you get to the top, insert a loop of twine which will serve as the hanging portion. Just sew right over the top of it to secure in place.

5. Then when you have sewn about 3/4 of the way around your heart, stuff with the filler.

6. Sew the rest of the way and you have yourself a cute stuffed felt heart.

7. Now just make a few more!

8. Dangle on a limb, hang them from the ceiling, or wherever it suits your fancy!

Aren't they just the cutest? Stay tuned for another easy DIY Valentine's day project tomorrow.
