We celebrated Ashyr's very 1st birthday Saturday with a little party which could not have been more fun. He was spoiled rotten by his grandparents, aunts, and uncles (aaaand maybe a little from mommy and daddy too). These are the invitations I sent out, made from toilet paper rolls! Super easy, so check out my tutorial below.
Toilet paper roll
Various colored cardstock
1. Cut out little flags and write the party information. One bit of information per flag.
2. Glue each flag around the twine in the order that it should be read as it is pulled out of the toilet paper roll. As you can see here, I made it read "Ashyr's 1st Birthday Party 3.17.12 1-3 pm Our Home.
3. Now cut out a handful of confetti to surprise all your recipients. (Okay, it will honestly probably be annoying when it's all over their floor, but still cute and therefore worth it).
4. Next put the strand of flags into the toilet paper roll along with the confetti. Be sure that the flags will be pulled out in the right order. Wrap up the toilet paper roll with some pretty cardstock. Leave a little twine hanging out and attach an "open" flag so they know what to do.
So this is what it will be like when it's opened!
This is a very inexpensive project and a nice change from your average invite. You just have to collect toilet paper rolls for a couple weeks! Although this is dirt cheap, do keep in mind the shipping cost. I only had to send two by mail which was total around $5 and the others I handed out in person.
I will have to add some more pictures of his cake, decorations, gifts, etc. later this week. But this gives you a taste of the color and theme I used.
