Recipe: Homemade Ginger Ale

Morning sickness. Ugh, worst part of pregnancy.  I had it really bad with Ashyr (thankfully not as bad this go around).  Since I lean towards using natural remedies whenever possible, ginger became my best friend for about 18 weeks.  I looked for any way I could add it to my diet: muffins, hot tea, and even nibbling it plain.  I actually don't like the taste or smell of ginger at all (and even more so now that I associate it with feeling queasy), but I did find relief from using it.  So today in continuation with my Bumps & Babies Series, I wanted to share my favorite way to use ginger while pregnant: Homemade Ginger Ale.

Homemade Ginger Ale

 Ingredients:

1 cup fresh ginger, peeled and thinly sliced
1 cup sugar
2 cups water
club soda
juice from half lemon

Directions:

1. Combine ginger, sugar and water in a saucepan. Simmer on low for 10 minutes, until sugar is dissolved and ginger is softened.

2. Strain warm syrup and allow to cool.

3. Fill a tall glass with ice, add 1 part(used 2oz shot glass) of ginger syrup and 3 parts of club soda.

4. Squeeze lemon wedge into glass. Use more syrup if desired.

Hey! I found this post from your link at Mommy by Day, Crafter by Night. I am so sick of feeling sick!!! It has been a long 14 weeks of pregnancy thus far. Thank you so much for this recipe, I will give it a try here really soon. If you're interested, I have started posting some maternity friendly DIYs on my blog (a maxi skirt and a belly band so far) with more to come. I'm super excited to check out your bumps and babies series!
