Recipe: Homemade Ginger Ale

Morning sickness. Ugh, worst part of pregnancy.  I had it really bad with Ashyr (thankfully not as bad this go around).  Since I lean towards using natural remedies whenever possible, ginger became my best friend for about 18 weeks.  I looked for any way I could add it to my diet: muffins, hot tea, and even nibbling it plain.  I actually don't like the taste or smell of ginger at all (and even more so now that I associate it with feeling queasy), but I did find relief from using it.  So today in continuation with my Bumps & Babies Series, I wanted to share my favorite way to use ginger while pregnant: Homemade Ginger Ale.

Homemade Ginger Ale

 Ingredients:

1 cup fresh ginger, peeled and thinly sliced
1 cup sugar
2 cups water
club soda
juice from half lemon

Directions:

1. Combine ginger, sugar and water in a saucepan. Simmer on low for 10 minutes, until sugar is dissolved and ginger is softened.

2. Strain warm syrup and allow to cool.

3. Fill a tall glass with ice, add 1 part(used 2oz shot glass) of ginger syrup and 3 parts of club soda.

4. Squeeze lemon wedge into glass. Use more syrup if desired.

DIY: "Orange Shine" All-Natural, All-Purpose Cleaner

One thing I hate doing while I'm pregnant is cleaning. I never felt okay about breathing in chemicals such as bleach cleaner for fear of it somehow hurting the baby (probably wouldn't, but still paranoid). So when our shower starting turning an embarrassing mold infested garden, I had to do something.  My solution was to make my own concoction a few weeks ago and it was amazing. I plan to use this even when I'm not pregnant as an all-purpose cleaner. It smells fresh and cuts the grime (and dirt cheap too)!

Just two ingredients: white distilled vinegar and orange peel!

1. Peel several oranges and drop the peels into a mason jar.

2. Pour your vinegar until the jar is full.

3. Let it brew for 2 full weeks.

4. It will be a light yellow color when it's all done.

5. This step is optional, but you can pour it into an empty spray bottle. I had an empty bottle of laundry stain remover to use. Then I named it "Orange Shine" and made a label!

Now I have no excuse to not clean while I'm pregnant. Although I have found myself pulling the "my back aches too bad today" card several times. :)

A Happy Mother's Day Indeed

I had a very happy Mother's Day.  My husband and Ashyr took me to the park for a relaxing stroll and then to my favorite local coffee shop for a drink and dessert.  Ashyr enjoyed Grant's strawberry cucumber juice!

While at the park, Ashyr started picking (err more like yanking with all his might)  these sweet pink flowers from a bush.  I couldn't resist and let him do it a few times after he brought them in handfuls to me. I like to think he was getting me a mother's day bouquet!

Daddy also had him draw a picture to give me which I think is just so beautiful. :)  Little Picasso! You better believe it is hanging on our fridge!

I feel beyond blessed to be Ashyr's mama and Grant's wife. Thank you, Grant for making me a mama!

Hope you had a wonderful day yesterday. Stay tuned for more in my Bumps & Babies series!

Bumps & Babies Blog Series

I have an annoucement!

But first let me say Happy Mother's Day to all you mamas out there!  I absolutely love this day, although it is only my second one ever.  I love being a mother to Ashyr and soon to be again in just one more month.  I am beyond thankful for my babies and husband.

Okay here is my annoucement.  Starting tomorrow, I will be blogging for a whole month on one topic: Bumps & Babies.  Yes, a whole month dedicated to all things pregnancy, baby, and motherhood related.  Anything goes--diy projects, recipes, products I love, and snippets from my personal life as a mama.

Will there be posts every single day? Probably not.  Maybe a few a week.  If you read my last post, you know I've been on an unplanned blogging hiatus.  But in the midst of the chaos, I have had a wee bit of time to work on some things that I'd like to share.

I am due with baby #2 on June 21st and thought it would be fun to celebrate the end of my pregnancy this way. I hope you will visit regularly and enjoy this little mini series I have put together! And if you would like to participate by contributing a guest post on anything bump, baby, or mama related, let me know!
